Electronic and Information Resources For academic accommodations, including those on campus, online, or at the Amarillo campus, please contact the Office of Student Disability Services. Physical location: Classroom Center 106 (WTAMU Canyon). Phone number: 806-651-2335. Overview West Texas A&M University is committed to making its electronic and information resources (EIR) accessible for all users in accordance with Section 508 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d), Texas Government Code Chapter 2054, Subchapter M, and the standards and specifications set forth by Texas Administrative Code Title 1, Chapter 206, Subchapter C, §§206.70 – 206.71 (TAC 206) and Texas Administrative Code Title 1, Chapter 213, Subchapter C, §§213.30 – 213.41 (TAC 213). Accessibility applies to all EIR developed, procured, or changed by WTAMU. These EIR must be in compliance with the accessibility criteria specified in the Standard Administrative Procedure (SAP) Accessibility of Electronic and Information Resources and the Web General Guidelines below. TAC Accessibility Workgroup To help ensure that WTAMU fulfills its obligation to provide information, services, and programs that are accessible, usable, understandable, and navigable, the T.A.C. (Texas Administrative Code) Accessibility Workgroup has formed. The workgroup consists of one representative from each of the following areas, serving either a permanent (P) or rotating (R) term. Through the most effective communication channels available, the workgroup will inform relevant personnel about accessibility requirements; assess WTAMU's current level of compliance; and make recommendations to administration on how to move closer to full compliance. The workgroup meets monthly to create and maintain WTAMU accessibility policies and procedures; develop or recommend accessibility training; and coordinate testing of University software, websites, and other electronic information resources. As the image and reputation of WTAMU is determined by the quality of information that is conveyed to our constituencies, content of all webpages residing on University servers or servers funded by University budgets, must be accurate, timely, and in compliance with local, state, and federal laws. WTAMU department heads appoint content editors who are responsible for overseeing all department webpages and for assuring the timeliness and accuracy of all content in department websites. The content of the WTAMU website is maintained by the University's web communication manager, designers, programmers, and content editors. The website is managed by the offices of Communication and Marketing, and Information Technology. Compliance All Official University webpages must comply with WTAMU web guidelines and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal laws. Copyright Copyright laws must be strictly observed on all WTAMU webpages. Content editors must have documented permission to copy and display copyrighted text, graphics, or photographs on their pages. Links Links must be clearly identified and must comply with the overall mission of the University and departmental goals. Accessibility WTAMU uses the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 as the primary guideline to meet the objectives of the Texas Administrative Code Title 1, Chapter 206, Subchapter C, §§206.70 (TAC 206). WT accessibility compliance and compliance testing responsibilities rest with the college or department EIR or website owner and/or the content editor/manager of University affiliated external webpages. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with disabilities. The guidelines are intended for all web content editors and web designers. The primary goal is to promote accessibility. However, following the guidelines will also make web content more available to all users (e.g., text-to-Braille or text-to-speech browsers, etc.). These guidelines do not discourage content editors from using images, video, etc., but rather explain how to make all web content more accessible to a wide audience.
