Department of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics Welcome to the Department of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics at West Texas A&M University. If you like science and want a good job after you graduate, you have come to the right place. The Department of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics (MCP) at West Texas A&M University is a student-centered community, dedicated to educating tomorrow’s leaders through innovative academic programs. The MCP faculty is committed to providing a technology-rich and academically challenging educational experience by constantly improving the courses offered, effective teaching and practical experiences. More importantly, we are dedicated to providing a great educational experience that prepares you for successful employment or further study in your area of interest. The departmental faculty members are eager to work with students in the classroom and in the laboratory. Students can pursue a variety of majors in mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Each of the departmental disciplines is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) area. Since there is a shortage of graduates in STEM areas throughout the global marketplace, graduates of our MCP programs find jobs. The MCP department offers a breadth of experiences including astronomy, learning mathematics with technology, and chemistry with lasers. Our undergraduate and graduate students complete research projects in biochemistry, chemistry with lasers, computational mathematics, theoretical mathematics, and mathematics education. Many of the MCP students participate in student research conferences with several placing or winning awards in competitions. Thank you for your interest in the department of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the departmental office, the MCP faculty, or me. Don R.
