Freshman Applicants

Admission Steps

First-time freshman applicants, including students who have received college-level credit while in high school, who wish to be considered for admission should submit the following:

  • Application for admission with required fee ($25) - Texas Common Application  *
  • Official high school and any college transcripts
  • TAKS scores (for Texas residents attending public school)
  • Entrance exam scores on the American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Assessment Test I (SAT I)

* Applicants to WTAMU are not required to answer page 5 ("extracurricular, personal, volunteer activities") or page 6 ("employment information") on the Texas Common Application.

Fall 2010 Admission Requirements

Freshman applicants will be admitted to the University upon meeting all three conditions below:

  1. Obtain a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA)
  2. Meet one of the following class rank and ACT/SAT requirements:

    Class Rank and ACT/SAT* Score
    Top 10% with no minimum ACT/SAT score
    11%-25% with 18 ACT or 860 SAT
    26%-50% with 19 ACT or 900 SAT
    51%-75% with 20 ACT or 940 SAT
    76%-100% with 21 ACT or 980 SAT
    *ACT Composite Score and SAT Critical Reading + Math Score

    Note: We do not currently require the writing section of the SAT for Admission's purposes and all class percentages that contain decimal points will be rounded up to the next percentile (e.g. 10.1% is equivalent to 11%.)

  3. Complete (or have a projected completion) of the recommended Texas high school curriculum* or similar college preparatory program. This includes:

* Texas residents attending public schools will also be required to have taken and passed all sections of the TAKS test.

Students who do not meet these conditions will be reviewed for admission on a competitive, individual basis, with weighted consideration of class rank and standardized test scores. Students may also be considered for provisional admission.

Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive a letter notifying you of your admission status (about ten days after your application file is complete).

Arrange for official transcripts to be sent from your high school (as well as any colleges or universities that you may have received credit from). Simply contact the school(s) and request for official transcripts to be mailed to:

Test Scores

The ACT School Code is 4250 and the SAT School Code is 6938.
