WTAMU Communication Department Wins Seven Telly Awards

 

CANYON, Texas—The electronic media emphasis program in the Department of Communication at West Texas A&M University won seven Telly Awards at the 38th annual Telly Awards. WTAMU’s winning videos represent some of the best work from more than 12,000 entries and were measured against such organizations as BET Networks, CBS Interactive, Comcast, NBC, PBS and more.

WTAMU’s winning productions are:

• One Sessions Mount Ivy—student production—bronze, produced by an advanced video class taught by Randy Ray;

• KWTS Underwriting—promotional video/student production—bronze, produced by Maroon Productions;

• WT University Police Department—public interest/awareness, student production—silver and bronze, produced by Maroon Productions; and

• Legacy: AJ Swope—individual documentary—bronze for sound design, bronze for use of graphics, produced by Johnny Story, broadcast engineer.

Maroon Productions is a student-run production company with advisers Randy Ray, Johnny Story from the Department of Communication, and Darcy Lively and Ann Underwood from the Office of Communication and Marketing. Students working with Maroon Productions included Allison Myers, Martha Alvarez, Bri Leeper, Gordon Zille and Buck Mayden.

“Winning Telly Awards is significant not only for the communication department, but for the entire University,” Story said. The Telly Awards honors outstanding content in the media industry, and it puts our department in the national spotlight. It verifies that our students are ready to make an impact in this industry.”

The WTAMU Department of Communication has won more than 60 Telly Awards since 2009.
