Parkhurst, a nurse practitioner, will start her new duties at the clinic beginning Thursday, Nov. 12. She comes to WTAMU from a busy cardiology practice in Amarillo, where she cared for critically ill patients in an inpatient setting. She previously worked as a registered nurse at a local hospital. The nurse practitioner also has experience at the Health Partners Clinic. She did clinicals there while working on her master’s in family nurse practitioner at WTAMU. “We are very excited to have Amber join our health clinic staff,” Dr. John Lubker, interim dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at WTAMU, said. “Her education, experience and dedication to nursing are outstanding, and she will be a great addition to a team of nursing professionals who work hard to provide excellent care for southeast Amarillo.” Parkhurst earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2000 from the University of Texas at Dallas, a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2002 from Texas Woman’s University and a master’s degree in family nurse practitioner in 2006 from WTAMU. She is a registered nurse in the state of Texas and is ANCC certified as a family nurse practitioner. She also is certified in advanced cardiac life support. The Health Partner’s Clinic opened March 10, 2003 as part of a federal initiative known as “Healthy Neighborhoods.” Since then, the clinic has become a true partner within the broader community. The full-service health clinic is located at 4400 S. Washington St. in the Southlawn Plaza Shopping Center. —WTAMU— |
