The College of Education and Social Sciences at West Texas A&M University will host its fourth annual Chili Cook-off from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 at the Pedestrian Mall (or Jack B. Kelley Student Center in case of inclement weather) on campus. Chili-cooking teams are limited to five members comprised of students, faculty, clubs, classes or anyone associated with WTAMU. Each team will prepare a taste-tempting chili recipe, and prizes will be awarded in various categories. Door prizes will be given, and book scholarships will be awarded to the Grand Champion team. Students Assisting “N” Good Endeavors (S.A.G.E.) will sponsor “Buffalo Big Give” on Saturday, Oct. 24 in honor of national “Make a Difference Day.” Campus groups at WTAMU are encouraged to participate in this day of service. The group with the most creative service event and the biggest give will receive a $500 award at a special presentation Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Dr. Hazel Kelley Wilson Alumni Banquet Hall. West Texas A&M University invites all spooks, goblins, princesses and superheroes to its annual Fall Community Carnival from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 at the Virgil Henson Activities Center All-Purpose Room. The carnival is geared toward children 12 and under, and booths sponsored by various campus organizations will provide fun, games and prizes. It is free and open to the public. For more information, call 806-651-2391. Priority registration. Priority registration for currently enrolled students begins Sunday, Nov. 1 at West Texas A&M University. The early registration period offers students a chance to schedule classes for winter intersession and the 2010 spring semester. The Nov. 1 priority registration is for graduate students and seniors, and juniors can begin the process on Thursday, Nov. 5. Sophomores can begin priority registration on Nov. 11 and freshmen on Nov. 16. Priority registration is open for all current and new students beginning Nov. 23. West Texas A&M University will sponsor a three-mile run/walk in a “Miles for Myles” benefit Sunday, Nov. 8 to raise money and awareness for cancer research. WTAMU, in conjunction with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, have all joined forces to promote the benefit as a tribute to Myles Brand, NCAA president who died of pancreatic cancer on Sept. 16. A $3 donation from each participant will be divided among three different funds for cancer research: Coaches vs Cancer, the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund and the Myles Brand Endowed Chair for Cancer Research.
